Home protection
To protect yourself from smoke inhalation, primarily during wildfire events or nearby structural fires, follow these established safety protocols:
Stay Indoors and Seal Your Environment
Keep Openings Closed: Close all windows and doors to prevent outdoor smoke from entering. Use weather stripping or damp towels to block gaps under doors.
Run Air Conditioning Safely: If you use central air, ensure it is set to "Recirculate" and the fresh-air intake is closed. Use high-efficiency filters, ideally MERV 13 or higher.
Designate a "Clean Air Room": Choose a room with minimal windows and doors and run a HEPA air purifier continuously in that space.
